Sweetie Bot and the Sin Cleansing Bathtub

Ta-da! After a good few months of nearly no artwork and a pile of notes I left behind (Sorry!) whilst duking it out with some pretty interesting physical and psychological problems, I bring you this wonderful little pony animation! Seriously, it’s quite little. Short, you could say. However, it is still animated pones, so it’s definitely good!

Since I really enjoy the kooky humor of the Friendship is Witchcraft series by Griffin and his idea of Sweetie Bot (artistically interpreted by me, however much to Griff’s ire), I decided to take another memorable scene from the most recent episode and put my own little spin on it. This clip takes place right after Applebloom, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Botelle decide that they’ve had enough of Babs’ big bad bullying buffoonery.  Drawing from the tender, inspiring moments they witnessed in a film about a blind filly, they summon up some of the darkest magic they can get their hooves on to render Babs’ permanently blind as a way to curb her pesky bullying habits. While cleaning sin from her coat, Applebloom finds her newly blinded cousin standing around outside the bomb shelter barn. She approaches her to let her know why she can’t see anymore.

The main purpose of animating this little scene was to help me create a bunch of highly show accurate resources in Flash that I’ll be able to use in future animations… if I get the time to do so. I also chose this scene in particular because it offered me a way to present my new filly rigs at pretty much every angle. Since Babs probably won’t show up on TV anymore (or so says Meghan, at least), I definitely wanted to do something that involved Babs in some way. Oh yeah, and I really liked watching Sweetie Bot glitch out in the washtub, so I wanted to get a chance to animate her doing so.

The other biggie here was getting a chance to try and emulate the show's actual movement style better. I studied this episode a bit to get a better feel as to how the animators make the pones seem so lively/animated. Given all the angles I tried to go with, I hope that I was able to capture some of that spirit and convey it here. I think this attempt at mimicking the show's animation style is a lot better than my previous attempts... I can only hope that I continue to improve and get them looking even better. Someday soon I'll be able to run some pretty convincing pone material, just you wait and see.
